Q: 1. I don't have internal GPS hardware on my mobile phone. Can I use Win Sports Tracker?
A: Yes, you can use external GPS receiver. Read this article how to set external GPS receiver.

 

Q: I'm using internal GPS. How can I set COM port?

A: If you are using internal GPS you do not need to set COM port, beacuse WinSportsTracker use Microsoft Intermediate driver. If you are using external GPS read question above.

 

Q: How to install application on phone?
A: Before you install application you need .NET Compact Framework 3.5. If it is not installed yet on the phone you can download package here. Read this artilce how to install WinSportsTracker .CAB file.


Q: Why it takes long time (10 min or more) to lock GPS?
A: This is not application problem, this is GPS HW problem. To get GPS lock quicker enable enhanced GPS (called A GPS for Nokia or XTRA for Samsung) on your phone. Enhanced GPS and also known as GPS XTRA (Extended Receiver Assistance) is an optional feature to improve the Time To First Fix (TTFF) on the user’s location. The process includes downloading a file from the Qualcomm server which is about 40KB in size and can be used for up to 7 days before it requires a re-download
The data file includes information on the satellite positions; this allows the handset to lock onto the satellites quicker vs. searching from a cold start. You enable XTRA on Samsung phone if you go to Settings->Network Settings->GPS->XTRA and enable XTRA and Download XTRA data. After that you sometimes get GPS lock in few seconds. Read phone user manual for detail instructions how to enable XTRA or AGPS.


Q: Is it possible to download maps on the computer and then store them on phone?
A: Yes it is possible. Use open source tools like Mobil Atlas Creator to download maps on computer. Maps must be in zoom/x/y.png format.
Steps to download maps with Mobile Atlas Creator:

• open Mobile Atlas Creator
• select coordinate for map download
• select map source
• select zoom level - default maps zoom level in WinSportsTracker is 15, but you can change this by zoom in and zoom out button
• check “Recreate /adjust map tiles” and leave width and height of tiles to 256 and, tile format PNG
• add selection in atlas content
• in atlas settings select OSMTracker tile storage
• click Create atlas
• after download is completed open atlas folder and go inside layer folder and maps folder, and then copy content (directories named with zoom level) to phone to maps location (you set this location in WinSportsTracker Maps->settings->Maps->Map folder).

 

Q: Why is altitude always zero?
A: On some phone models sea level altitude is always zero beacuse of old firmware version. Go in WinSportsTracking Settings->Tracking and disable "Sea level altitude". If you disable this settings Elepsoid altitude will be used.

Q: I installed WinSportsTracker 3.0 and I don’t see maps downloaded with old version?
A: Map folder structure changed in version 3.0. Go in Settings->Map and press button Convert old maps. It may take couple of minutes to convert old map structure to new one.


Q: There is no translation for my language. How can I get translation for my language?
A: Go to download page and download file yourlanguage.xml and copy it to winsportstarcker\language directory. After that set language in Settings->General->Language to your language and restart program.

If there is no translation file for your language you can translate by yourself. Download template.xml and rename file to yourlaguage.xml. Then open file with notepad and replace string Template with yourlanguage (same as filename). After that, translate all values beside key values. Example: <string key="Avg.speed">Avg.speed</string> replace with <string key="Avg.speed">Translation</string> where Translation is translation in your language. After that copy file to language directory and change language in settings.

Q: I keep getting Out of memory exceptions. What can I do?
A: That mean that your phone is low on memory. Please check that you enable “Simple view mode” in Settings->General and that you disable views you don’t need in Settings->View.
